A Love Letter To My Mother

Dear Mom,
There is so much I want to say but honestly I do not know where to begin, you have gone through so much in years. From the death of a first husband when you were so young and meeting your second who gave all of us wonderful years. Many of us know there is always good and bad when you are being raised as a child, but I would have to say you did an excellent job with raising all of us. When you met your third husband after a divorce I do have to say that I have had the honors of having not one, not two but three wonderful men who I was always proud to call dad. People would say that being married that many times is dysfunctional but to me I believe that people sometimes outgrow one another. You and your second husband remained close friends until his passing last year. Yes you had your ups and downs but for someone reason, maybe it was due to the youngest siblings but you managed to forgive and forget all that both of you ever disagreed on.
When I was young I remember you bandaging my knees and kissing my boo-boo's. You taught all of us how to be little ladies you certainly did not wish for us to act like spoiled little brats! We learned manners, how to sit and when to keep our skirts down. I remember hanging from a tree in tights and a dress, boy you certainly spanked my bottom, as you know I never did that again. Spankings were allowed when we were growing up and it hasn't seemed to harm me in anyway, it certainly did not make me cold or bitter a spanking here and there, it made me respect your point and now I realize what a hard head I was,but mom that is another discussion. I would love when Santa would come he was such a wonderful Santa and I was in awe that he brought us new pajamas and slippers every Christmas, I always thought that the other kids did something naughty because nobody else in the neighborhood had gotten new PJ's and slippers but us.
As I type this tears well-up in my eyes because I know that now you are going through so much pain fighting cancer is hard, you not only have one type but you have four types of cancer. I am so happy that the brain is in remission, and I pray that the lung is too. I am thankful that the breast has not spread and I hope they remove the cancer in the colon, sometimes I just go upstairs and cry but I know you are a fighter, I know that God has a plan for you and I pray that he does not take you anytime soon, of course all of us know that we do have a pessimistic sister but hey, I have always been the optimist and truly I try to find good in everyone , even when they upset me or break my heart. I have gotten that from you, people may say that you are naive', but what I believe is that you have given me a gift , it has been a beautiful gift, how many people can say that there heart is so giving? You have giving me the gift of being creative, strength and belief in myself. You see mom although we may not have always met eye to eye on certain things you supported me regardless if I was wrong. You gave me wings to fly when I was young and pushed me out of the nest, the love you had when we hit the ground was the most unconditional love any mother could give. You let me back into the nest to gather my feathers and let me fly again until I was able to fly on my own.
There have been times recently when I have been snippy it is because I can only hope that you will be around for a long, long time. Besides my husband you are my heart, my soul, my everything. I now I am like a mother looking after her child with you, but I knew from the time I was small that I would someday take care of you. I could not imagine living life without you, and when that day comes I have to understand that you will not be far away but will always remember that my heart is your heart I will always remember you carried me. There are so many more stories that I could write about but you know that they are wonderful memories forever etched in my heart and locked in a precious box in my mind and that I thank you from the bottom of my heart to the tips of my toes.
I love you for so many reasons,
I love you because you taught me respect,
I love you because you did not ever neglect,
I love you because you allowed us to be children
I love you because you disciplined with love,
I love you because you taught me how to bake,
I love you because you taught me how to cook,
I love you because even when I failed you never gave up,
I love you because you make me smile,
I love you because you love unconditionally,
I love you because you never placed any conditions on me,
I love you because you believed in me,
I love you because through any sorrow you are my sunshine,
I love you for so many other reasons and these are only a few , but I love you simply because you are only you! Not only on any special day but I will love you forever and always!

Tams R: I did tell her and remember her tears and the look in her face as she sat on the edge of my bed while I read it. I have not yet found Peace with mom's passing and my heart hurts everyday. When I think of her my heart breaks. I miss her so much that I do not always know what my day will bring. If I do not think about it then the day is good, but when I read words I have written I break down in tears. Thanks for taking time to read the words I wrote to my mom and one day I will find Peace.

OKUNS DAVE: I understand. I miss my mom too. Although the pain feels very strong now, it will slowly subside. This was written for my mom and it was her last Valentine's day. You will feel empty and sad. But she is with you. I wrote this in my Mother's Journal and will share this with you.
"When you touch your heart, you will feel your mother's heart. When you look at your hands, you may see here. When you look at your eyes, she is looking with you and when you smile, she is smiling with you." I hope you have a brighter day tomorrow and hang in there. Nobody can ever replace your mother, but she is always with you. :)

moonspiration: You should tell your mom you love her. I would recommend as often as possible. Be expressive now, you don't want to have regrets later. I was able to share those words that you just read to my mom on her last Valentine's day. 6 months later she passed away. :( I miss my mom and still cannot read the words that I wrote to her without crying. So since you have your mom please tell her you love her. Tomorrow is never promised.
Every one of us should do the same (as you did) from time to time.
I don't remember the last time I said to my mum that I love her.I really want to say it and show her how much I love her, but there is something deep inside me.. stopping me from doing it. lord de cross: I know. It has been fourteen months since she passed and I still have emotional moments. Some days are better then others, but my heart still aches for her. I am glad that she was able to hear these words on her last Valentine's day, before she passed away. I still cannot sit and read the words without my heart feeling the sadness because I miss her. But I also remember the joy it brought her, when I read it to her out loud. What a blessing she was and always will be.

Sorry for the lateness. First time I read this letter, and as you told me, God took your mom last August for a BETTER life. The good thing is that Mothers are in us and living through us. They are in our everyday actions... and we keep on going. After a few tears, comes a relieve. After letting out held back emotions, we feel much better and ready to share and give.
How wonderful it must be to have this priceless memory to treasure. It would have been wonderful if your mum had read it herself but to have the daughter who wrote it read it outloud to her with all the emotions right there for mum to witness must have blessed the socks off you both.

Jackie Lynnley: It was a letter to mom on her last Valentine's day. Her and I both cried when I read it to her. When reading it to her after I posted it, I remember she said, "keep going.". I did and it was so hard. Mommy's are the most special people and when gone they are deeply missed.
When my dad died my mom died too, although she lived another 10 years, within 2 years she had him alive again, just off somewhere. I don't know how I made it through her last four years and I never thought of writing her a letter but many poems and I can't tell you how many times I want to pick up my phone and call her. Mommy's are the most special people on earth, the ones who love their children anyway and teach them love. Very beautiful hub.

To all thank you for the beautiful comments and this was written for my mother and would be her last Valentine's day which was last year. I still find myself unable to read the words I wrote to her since she passed on August 21,2010. I remember her sitting on the bed next to me last year as I read those words to her for Valentine's day. My mom is truly missed.

Harvey: I hope she is with us a for a long time to, I check on her constantly, she is across the hall from us. I always listen for her breathe or see if the blanket is moving. I know it sounds nuts but I could not imagine life without her right now. Do we have our moments? Absolutely indifferences is what makes our Mother-daughter relationship stronger. I may not always like what she says or does, I tend to bite my tongue with things that annoy me but I love her just the same. Thank you for your lovely comments and thoughts. :)

There are many times in life that things get tougher than anyone can imagine, unfortunately we all go through these times. As we get older it is natural that more grief comes our way. This is unfair to everyone that experiences whatever brings the the pain.
I am empathetic to what you are going through, having lost both parents years ago. They say; "time heals all wounds." I do not agree with that. I have prayed for G-D to rest my parents souls every day, for years.
You are not at that point, and I pray it won't come for many years. In the meantime I know you are doing everything possible for her and will never stop. Your mom is always with you, in your heart and mind. I'm sure she knows how much you love her, like you know the converse.
Hopefully she will be living with you for a long time to come, and will be telling you things you have done wrong. That's something mom's do. May she dance at your sons wedding.
Writing things like this, I frequently place my foot in my mouth. I hope I didn't do it this time, you're too nice.

Very touching intimate emotions and reasons expressed - they both show your love for your Mother. When love is so deep, the pain of another is difficult to bear - but you can, for God loves you both, beyond any human ability.
