Bible Verses About Satan Or What Many Call The Devil

There are many verses in the Bible about Satan. I can say that I have encountered this dark demon, fallen angel, angel of darkness among the masses and it certainly knows how to rear its ugly head , however the Grace of God has protected me and even Satan knows the Bible. Many of us who are Christian often put our armor down believing that something that we hear is truth but when we truly listen to God, we find that we were led astray by what we believed to be angel and it truly wasn't an angel at all. 2 Cor. 11:14 says, " No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. " He certainly does disguise himself but in Ephesians 6: 11-13 it says, " Put on the whole armour of God, that we may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done, all to stand.
In the book of Job 1:7 " The Lord said to Satan, "From where do you come?" Then Satan answered the Lord and said, " From roaming about the earth and walking around in it." Everyday our faith is tested as Satan works to sway our beliefs, truths and ways.but God does say in, Psalms 37:1-9 Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong; for like grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away. Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carryout their wicked schemes. Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret- it leads only to evil. For evil men will be cut off, but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land.
The Bible has many passages about Satan Act 26:18, 1 John 4:4 , Rev 20:10, Mat 4:1 and the list goes on, but for every passage about Satan it also gives you guidance and how to protect yourself from his fury. Philippians 4:13 is one of my favorite passages it simply reads, " I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. Every time we go to battle we need to just step back and breathe, God wants only great things for us if we only listen. Instead of dancing with the Devil we need to Waltz with the Lord.

Yes, my friend the Scriptures are filled with Satan; yet we need to know as you point out there are means to protect ourselves. I have definitely been harassed by Satan. When I was but a child he called out my name and I knew it was him. I knew also that because of this I would be a target all my life because of the works I do in the Lord. Recently the Lord revealed to me that Satan wanted my ministry stopped in its tracks but I want you to know that Satan did not prevail in this. I am back at hubpages to stay. I saw this evil conquered, as the Lord showed me further in another vision. My family has been attacked by Satan himself these past couple of years but when a family stands in the Lord they will not fall.
Sciantel: He certainly does attack, decieve, bare false witness, proclaim the Lord in his name he is pure evil. All of us are being attacked and we have to get back to our true beliefs , put on the coat of armor and stand our ground. The Lord will not fail we have to put all of our trust in him. When all of us truly listen God will tell us so many things. " Remember God whispers, and the World is loud." :)
Interesting Hub - He isn't good. "He goes about like a roaring Lion seeking whom to Devour", "who to destroy" but thank God there are other verses that are encouraging. "God will arise and His enemies be scattered".... so many more.

Very true - all that you have written. I too had the experience to meet the devil in disguise of an angel. A very strange experience, but I fear not because I leave everything up to God (my life is much safer in His hands).

Ok. Can anyone argue against the premise that religion can be used by a "learned man" as a way of controlling the thoughts and actions of other men? No. It isn't always...but the potential is always there. So when "the bible" is translated and re-written is it done "by the perfect will of God" or "the imperfect will of man"?

What gives us oxygen to breathe? What allows us to go to sleep at night without dying? Well tells our minds to inhale/exhale when we are resting? Yes there are many Christians who call themselves followers of Christ, believers etc. that distort the word of God, I have had my share of them , they are judgemental and do have prejudices but there are the few who truly try to walk with God and do not pass judgement upon anyone, there are those who have been hurt by lying Christians who turn the other cheek and look away. It has brought me to God--in the best way. No lie--GOD EXISTS and so does the devil--in ways you could not imagine and they aint pretty! I have met GOD..and I can tell you it is most beautiful...you want to discredit-disprove-about the writings of the Holy Bible do you?
DO me this favor will you--instead of trying to disprove it to others that God and the devil don't exist--invite the devil into your life-say it outload and laugh about him--and see what happens....but remember when you see it--when you feel it--GO--run! run! PJK - Neville Goddard. I never heard of him and these "new" ideas about scripture until a few years ago. Now he's renewed my faith in God and helped explain all the tricky conflictions and discrepancies in the bible. When you realize its all parabolic... it makes sense.

What do I mean that things will be seen down the road?
"Down the road"--what is in store for the world-what is being laid down-MUCH DARKNESS-placed-piece by piece and all darkness will come to light,whether we see it or not right now-those who's eyes do not see-they will see then. For those who have God, they will not fear but understand the 'whys' behind this happening. They will stand firm in GOD-their allegiance and never waver--
For those as PJK and many, many others. They will have a chance to see the 'truth' of the devils existence. Will they go to God? Will they go to the darkness that is going to cover the earth? Only God knows. I pray that they go to God.
As I have said, there are many people here in the world that 'see' with different eyes-as you do AEevans-some more-some lesser-and some not at all. It is our job to plant seeds--your hub is here and is planting seeds-so all of God's children see these words..one day down the road...they will need them!

Then, she began to tell me all about the many devils and terrible things that were going to happen to me if I didn’t get on his side. Finally I stopped her and said, “I am reminded of what Frank Lloyd Wright once said, ‘We are both doing God’s work, you in your way and I in his.’” Then I excused myself and as I closed the door a thought came to me. “He has awakened from the dream of life. Tis we who, lost in stormy vision, keep with fancy an unprofitable strife.” You find a devil and you make more devils because you recognize them and what you recognize you project and make real in your world.
All I can tell you is what I have experienced concerning Scripture. This miraculous child is a fact. The day will come when you will experience everything said of this child. There will be those who will make a hasty journey to see that which has happened in Bethlehem. They will find the child and, knowing whose child it is, they will call you by name. If your name is John they will declare it is John’s baby. Then you will pick up the child, look into its heavenly face and as he laughs the vision comes to its end. And then you will know the reality of the child that was given to you as a sign that the savior was born. There is only one savior who is God. So if the savior is born, God is born. He came down into man and raises man by being reborn, from man, for I am the root and the offspring of David.
All I can tell you is what I have experienced concerning Satan and it aint pretty--aint in my head-aint in my imagination-aint nothing some goober goddard is saying...lol...Do you know what the biggest lie of satan and his minions is????

Yes, Satan is one bad dude and he knows our weaknesses and how to exploit our fears. But turn to the end of the bible and we find that Jesus wins, so there's no fearing Satan!

In Psalm 37, as you mention. The key words are don't fret, don't get anxious...

This was a great article, You've inspired and reminded me of what I love most talking about The Father, the most high, the creator of all things, and Christ, who made it possible for our sins to be forgiven. We can go to the father and ask for help in confidence that there is nothing that you have done can be forgiven, the blood has already been given in your behalf. You ask and it shall be given and you will see the wonders, the favor and God will show himself to you and confirm that he really is.

It's a long trip down here toward the end of endless comments. I don't have much to say really. If I wanted to argue I'd get married again. I've wanted to believe in Gnosticism and I don't see much to dislike. I like all believers of the Golden Rule as I've harped. Pjk_artist says though, "Will you ever accept the fact that Satan, Christ and God exist only within us?" I'm pretty sure Satan lives "out there". He drops by occasionally but I show Him the way out pretty quickly most times. The fact is- I never put myself in jail under false pretenses. I've never lied about me and lost jobs because I've lied about me. I've never started a war. With all that I've seen including moods change for the worst when I've showed up sometimes tells me that things were jolly and then actions, thoughts, and moods are projected to me. This tells me right or wrong and without any other explanation that Satan will come by people of God and sit right down in their "houses". I think powerful people as they display their apathy and lies about world problems dance with Satan and sleep with Satan. Where Satan comes from doesn't even matter to me but there is a seed that can grow bigger depending on what seed we nurture. I've said a lot to say nothing. Thanks for a great hub.

I think that this hub is VERY blessed and spiritual things have happened here-through the Holy Ghost--and I am not meaning me-ghosty..do you know what it is?
All believers--they have just been shown Satan and how he comes in LIGHT to trick. We read about it but many don't understand what this really means--and this is a great example by what just showed up on this hub for a reason. I do not mean pkj-it is not him that speaks-it is satan and his trickery on him. I love pkj but I despise satan!

Hey Girl- I am so happy you wrote this. I am always telling people that scripture about the "angel of light" because sadly so many sincere people get tricked so easily by him. Its easy for us to forget he has had thousands of years to master his M.O. to get to each person by their individual weaknesses. I always look to the bible to build my strength to endure and keep "awake". Good hub!

Thinking about this for a bit, Julianna, the "Whole Armor of God" passage you mentioned, is based on the Roman Legion model of armor. While we often portray it in our art as a knight's armor and see it as one-on-one conflict, that was not what Paul was writing about. The Roman shield was designed for formation fighting, protecting not only yourself, but the guy fighting next to you. When our own faith falters, how awesome it is to have a brother or sister next to us to protect us with some of theirs. Thanks for standing by my side with your shield!

I appreciate the clarity of your writing, and the truth of what you say. It is important to be firmly grounded in the word, because Satan knows the bible better than many of us. He will use it to trap us if we let him. Interesting forum of ideas here.

I wouldn't want myself as my god. I'm a sinner, full of pride and arrogance. If I think I have good works, they are really just filthy rags. I'm glad that I believe in God as the external creator of the universe. I look to Christ as perfection and pray that I'll be conformed and made new daily as I learn more about the glory of our God through prayer and faith.

I'm so proud of my good friend GhostWhisper77 for standing her ground with him. Ghosty is powerfully connected with the heavenly realm of God, and not one to be taken lightly. people distort the word of god because they are all study, little prayer and mostly ego.
The crux of christianity is having a literal relationship with jesus christ and the father. (the two are one yes i know) Many people like to study the word and crack those tough verses, but few people will spend 5 hrs a day praying or 3 days fasting or 10 minutes 20xs a day seeking the face of god.. in short many people think that writing continuous hubs or books or joining the pta; make up for the time they do not seek god, in the quiet of their closets.
Many people have not come out and are not separate from the world and many do not carry their cross daily. They have all these attachments to the world, hobbies or sports or fetishes of cars, nicknacks, etc... some don't care what actual real day is the true sabbath of god. Some interpret this period of grace as a time to downplay every rule that crucifies their flesh and they take god hog-tied into every ugly sinful situation they want and then chant "oh i love jesus".
If christianity were easy then something would be wrong. Jesus said it will cost us all and that we must be holy. Many people don't know the difference between an nice, acceptable, socially responsible person and a holy person. Many think nice is good enough.
But its not.
Personal relationship with god is tantamount. Not activity time, activityless time and more time with god is necessary. The spirit will guide us into all truth so long as our relationship with jesus is on track.
Maybe your called to be a door usher and not much is required of you but still, will he say, "i know you not"?
A personal relationship with God is something that so many of us could and should commit ourselves to. I wake up in the morning , pray and read. I through out the day remember him and thank him for his blessings and I go to sleep at night knowing that no matter what I endure God is listen and I listen to him. Many of us have fallen short of the glory because we are children of Christ but it takes the strong who are turthful, honest believers to lift us and give us the direction again. Your last question is a great one, it is one that I will certainly have to ponder. I thank you so much for your comment and continue to be blessed. :)
Superb hub, on satan...which brings into question of many religions that do not teach about Hell for fear of chasing their flocks away. How can that be biblical. Satan hounds me daily, tempting, always tempting, perhaps he is imbibed in all of us, and our vices make him stronger, and we create our own little hells here on earth. Wherein he dwells, God cannot bring peace, or hope, or salvation till we willingly purge our demons. Thanks for sharing a great reminder of the evil one.~~~MFB III

He that confined man also released man...and i trust you know that God must be experienced, to be understood. we should rather let people discover the great assignment of Life which is " the discovering of Jesus Christ in them" 2nd Corinthians 13:5. Once they pass this test..all this debate of God, man, devil would be solved instantly okay. All, Please Note this: " We are Spiritual beings on human journey not the other way round. Christ is your reality, Christ is your Life, Christ is in you as you. and on the last day, when Christ is revealed, you too would be like him cos you would know him as He is-You.(You can only know anything spiritually when you are it). man became separated from God in their thoughts and actions,(Colossians 1: 21a),It's Christ that we preach, that's the Injunction of the scripture. All this debate would be solved when it pleases the Father to reveal is Son in people, every man in their own order... I sincerely pray for all for the full experiential knowledge of Christ. Then all your questions, debate, reasoning would END. The discovery of Christ as your life..the Truth would set you free but first it would make you mad!!!

Thanks for this tonight! It is so good for people to expose the darkness that exists--because it DOES--the biggest lie of the darkness is to whisper to people that there is no sin-no devil-no evil--so they go on there happy merry way--sinning and not realizing what is happening!
