Conception And Fertility Drugs

Infertility is frustrating for those who have tried for years to conceive, only to find that they have to resort to using fertility medications to treat there ovulation disorders. Some of the medications are taken orally, while others are injected. The medications used work by causing hormones to release that will allow a woman to ovulate or it will regulate there ovulation.
There are many different reproductive techniques IVF (in vitro fertilization) is a great example; however fertility drugs are still part of the procedure when it comes to conception. There are many medications to choose from when treating infertility, ask your doctor about any side effects before using fertility drugs. here are the basics on the most commonly used fertility drugs, some you may have knowledge of others less likely but all serve a purpose when trying to conceive.
Clomid or Serophene ( clomiphene nitrate)
When discussing fertility drugs the first drug of choice is Clomid or the medical terminology is (Clomiphene) which is given to women who are not ovulating normally. Clomid and Serophene are brand names of Clomiphene which are anti-estrogen drugs. When taken properly they cause the hypothalamus and pituitary gland to release hormones that will stimulate the ovaries to produce the eggs. GNRH (Gonadotropin-releasing hormone) is released from the hypothalamus and FSH (Follicle-Stimulating hormone) and LH (luteinizing hormone) are released from the pituitary gland. Clomid and Serophene are often used with the combination of artificial insemination and reproductive techniques.
The numbers are staggering as it has been documented based on case studies that 60% to 80% of all women who take clomiphene (Clomid or Serophene) will ovulate, and approximately one half of all women will conceive as a result of taking (Clomid or Serophene). Most first time pregnancies occur within the first three cycles.
There are some side effects to taking Clomid or Serophene however they are generally mild. They include bloating, hot flashes, headache, blurred vision and nausea. Clomid or Serophene can also cause changes in the cervical mucus, which may make it a little more complicated to tell when you are fertile and may inhibit the sperm from entering the uterus. Clomid can increase of having multiple births, it is however less likely to cause the problem like some of the inject-able hormones.
If Clomid or Serophene is not successful at your chances of becoming pregnant your doctor may certainly recommend that you recieve inject-able hormones to have a greater chance at conceiving and the injections will also stimulate the ovulation.
Hunan Chorionic Gonadotropin(HCG) common names Pregnyl, Novarel,Ovidrel, and Profasi. One of these commonly named injections are normally used along with other fertility medications to enable the ovaries to release the mature egg or eggs.
Any of these can be used to stimulate ovulation and is a way of treating a number of infertility problems.
As with your oral medications Clomid or Serophene, inject-able hormones have a high success rate in the stimulation of women to ovulate, it has also been documented that of the women who have used the injections over 50% of those are able to conceive.
Most of the side effects are mild just like when you are taking Clomid or Serophene however they are different. The side effects can include swelling, bruising, blood blisters, infection and can also cause tenderness. Their is also a risk of ovarian stimulation, a condition when the ovaries become enlarged and tender. Ovulation stimulating drugs also increase the chance of multiple pregnancy which can be risky for both mother and child/children.
Should you have any of these side effects once you begin taking the prescribed medication contact your physician immediately, even though we try to conceive side effects should never be taken lightly. Before you decide to take any type of fertility medication talk to your doctor so that he can determine which medication is best for you. Most of all have a happy healthy pregnancy.

Very good information. Many people have heard of IVF, but I wonder how many know that there are medications available to try before going that route?

Hi AEvans, Great info. Infertility is more common that most people realize, as couples marry later and put off pregnancy into their 30s and even 40s. Those who are fertile should count their blessings. The whole infertility process is difficult. Glad to read positive outcomes! Great hub!

Very interesting. I've never had trouble with fertility, but am still interested in all aspects of conception/birth/delivery/babies and children. I can only imagine how difficult it would be to face these challenges, and I'm reminded of just how lucky I am.

You have spoken concerning women, it is really good, but i will like you to talk about low sperm count for men, and staphylococcus,and how it affects sperm production.
