Tips For A Healthier Heart
Here are a few good tips that you should be aware of:
1. Smoking: Don't smoke, if you do stop! Women who smoke have a far greater chance of a heart attack then non-smoking women.
2. Consult: Always disclose your family history to your Doctor
3. Nutrition: Avoid foods high in saturated fats, eat at least 5-7 servings of fruits and vegetables each day.
4. Relief: Take an aspirin at the first sign of any heart attack symptoms
5. Working out: Get off the couch and exercise! Walk, jog, mow the lawn do whatever it takes to get the heart moving.6. Testing: Avoiding a heart attack is much easier then it sounds if we take the time to ask our Doctor for the CRP (C-Reactive Protein) test which measures inflammation levels in our bodies, which can determine any inflammation around our heart.
7. Cooking: Utilizing extra-virgin olive oil daily instead of using other oils or fats cuts your CRP levels by 20%. Olive oil is rich in antioxidants and manages to turn-off one of the genes that kick-starts the production of CRP.
8. Vitamins: Check your medicine cabinet. A University of California at Berkley study reveals that taking 1,000-mg. of vitamin C daily lowers CRP levels by 24%, it cuts joint and inflammation in half, plus it lowers heart-disease risk by a whopping 20%.
9. Exercise: Melting that good old belly fat by exercising just 30 minutes each day reduces CRP by 30%. Exercise burns the belly fat, which can produce up to a third of CRP. Start walking, start moving and reduce the CRP risk.
10. Rest : A woman needs at least 6-8 hours of sleep per night, less than that can raise the CRP levels. Sleeping at least 6-8 hours can cut those CRP levels by a staggering 75%. What causes the CRP level to soar when lack of rest occurs is the stress hormone cortisol, which can trigger inflammation in your body cells to soar.
Always consult your physician before making any changes in your diet, exercise or daily regimen. Be kind to your heart and it will be kind to you.

AEvans, Great Hub! Nice and Helpful information. Each little step taken creates better health and WHAT about quality of life. It's never to late to get strong and fit! Peace :)
I have all your firt set of symstems and the doctors tells me there is nothing wrong with me. Thank you a very impressive hub.
AEvans, Great hub. Women don't always realize they can have heart attacks just as often as men, and more women die then men when they do have heart attacks. You did a service listing all those symptoms that don't always sound like a heart attack as everyone can be different. I was a cardiac RN for 22 years and saw women who often had no clue they were having a heart attack as it was happening.
The numbers are indeed shockiing but your great hub is very helpful and very necessary, AEvans...Thanks for caring!
AEvans, Very informative hub! Surprising statistics! Great healthy suggestions! Thank you for sharing, Peace & Blessings!
Very informative hub.
Thank you for helping my wife in this wonderful hub because I will tell her about the symptoms, and she needs more sleep every day. I try to make sure she gets whatever she wants. God Bless you sweet dear sharing heart.
Thank you for this information! It is in my family and they don't live really long lives. At 50, I am on the lookout for these types of info. So thank you for writing clearly about signs, symptoms, statistics and preventative measures. There is NO substitute for taking better care of yourself!
I suffered a "mini-stroke" or TIA (transient ischaemic attack) only last December 2009 while singing in our church choir during the Christmas midnight mass. It was short but I was confined in a hospital just the same. My 2D Echo test turned out negative results, my heart is healthy. I like this hub. It serves as a reminder to me to take extra care. Thanks for sharing this.
that is so scary to read, AEvans. I sadly do not know my family history so I don't know if there is heart issues in my birth parents. I am definitely wanting more and more to find out about my health history. thanks for this great hub.
I wouldn't want to find my birth parents for personal reasons only would want to find out health info
Those numbers are astounding and frightning. It is up to us to make sure our doctors do the right thing. I am 40, have some symtoms and my doctor chucked them off as stress. That is unacceptable. Seeking a new doctor. Just not worth the risk, esp., with family history as well. Well researched article. Great piece of writing. :-)
A great hub that deserves absolute attention. Thanks AEvans
The heart is certainly a robust yet fragile organ. I feel bad for the way I mishandle my health. I should probably start taking things more seriously. Thanks for a great hub!
Great article, voted up
