Who Was Thomas Kinkade

Thomas Kinkade was a man who shared his heart and spiritual Art with millions. Taunted by media and mean spirited critics, lead Thomas down the path of relapse with alcoholism. His brother Patrick Kinkade is cited as stating, " As much as he said it didn't bother him, in his heart deep down inside it would sadden him that people would criticize so hatefully is work and vision when people didn't understand him."

Why is our World so cruel? Thomas Kinkade was Artist. He was not a kitsch-master, so why would the World of official Art reject him? Who are they to tell us what defines Art? There are many artists who will not be recognized for their talent all because a handful of people define themselves as being the hawk with the cutting-edge eye for Art.

Memories of Thomas Kinkade

Two years ago while writing on Hubpages I desired to write about his artistic ability and his beautiful paintings. Many times I would research and contact the artist or photographers, asking permission to use their work on my articles. After watching the movie about his life, I began to look for a way to contact Kinkade and ask permission to use his work. I knew his "Painter of Light" had been copyrighted and was protected so placing it in my title was not permissible.

Being a writer it can be disheartening when someone steals your work; nonetheless your words. Low and behold one day I was able to send an e-mail directly to Thomas Kinkade. I figured there would not be a response because surely he was bombarded with e-mails. Praying I hoped he would give me permission to place some of his work on my article. A week passed and then two, finally when I opened an e-mail there were such warm words. He had granted permission for me to use several pictures from his gallery. I was elated! He asked that I send a link to my article once it was complete and I obliged.

In my hub he commented, " Tom 2 years ago Great article AEvans! I will have to learn more about this artist. What is meant by "chapter-and-verse-allusions"?

I replied, "Tom: It is Biblically speaking meaning that Thomas Kinkade creates the beauty of biblical verse through his paintings well it is my perception of the word that I used. Thomas Kinkade is an absolute inspiration and an artist like no other, when I look at his paintings I see Love, Light and God in them, each tells a story that stirs the soul. :)

With a private e-mail he thanked me for writing a beautiful article about who he was without using his copyrighted words. To me the greatest gift was the words that are placed in my article by a magnificent artist who is none other than 'Thomas Kinkade'.

Faith In God

No matter what in his daily life challenged him, he always had faith in God. It has always bothered me when people have judged others because of their transgressions. All of us are human and have flaws within ourselves, nobody is perfect that walks this Earth but God.

Talented

For thousands of years there have been many talented artists. The world will either love them or hate them. How many artists do you know that can see another dimension that nobody understands and paint it so beautifully?

Talented as he was there is not any comparison to other artists with the color blends he used. The exuberant and vibrant colors are beautifully orchestrated and illustrated. He was able to paint true beauty and light.

Creative

Who else can paint the World so magnificently? Bridges, Gazebos, Cottages, Landscapes to Disney he was able to depict the true beauty and serenity of each individual piece. If you wish for serenity or joy his art work will stir your soul.

Walking down my hallway when I pass a picture there is always tranquility that is instilled in each print or painting. After a hectic day I am drawn to the peacefulness of his art work. Besides 'Monet' , Kinkade was the only artist who has been able to capture life and see the beauty from within, while bringing it to life.

Colorful

Vibrant and deep colors were a trademark of Thomas. Many have tried to create the same color palette but have failed horribly. One can always distinguish between a Kinkade and a fake. It also appears that many are trying to make a profit off of his work. Having a sincere passion for his Art, I could not imagine eliminating any of them from my collection.

Depicting Bible Verses

For Thomas one of his favorite subjects were to depict Bible verses. With grassy inclines or gated-images that lead you through faith. His work tells a story a person has to just take time to read the art.

Every painting has something that you are drawn too. Which includes hidden messages for his wife and daughters by hiding there initials throughout his work. You can look at it as a spiritual journey to find the missing link in your life.

Idealist

Thom also believed that art had the power to change people's hearts and touch their lives. With his deep faith in God, he believed that God was the foundation of his work. When looking at his work God has flowed through every piece of work he has created. When we would put the brush to canvas, God gave him the gift to create heaven and earth through his eyes.

Nostalgic

Many of his paintings and prints depict nostalgia. A time and place when life was much simpler and life moved at a slower pace. People were friendly and your neighbors would lending a helping hand. Gone are the days of the neighbor boy mowing a lawn without charging a hefty price. Where have all the good deeds and kindness gone?

When you look at a Kinkade you can step back in time and yesteryear whispers in your ear. Memories flood your mind and there are moments when you can turn back time. Step inside a picture with your mind and the paintings will come to life as you listen to sounds and laughter of the past.

Artistic

When Thomas Kinkade's parents divorced when he was 4-years old, it was uncommon for a single woman to raise children. Growing up in Placerville, California it was evident that he had talent and would develop himself to become an Artist. Thom was known to draw continually through his young age and it was the only thing that he felt gave him dignity through poverty and shame during those times. He was known as the kid who loved to draw.

By the time he was 16-years old he became an accomplished artist in oil and was guided by well-know artist Glen Wessels. Continuing his studies at the University of California at Berkley and Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. Traveling from California to New York with longtime friend James Gurney after graduation. Thom created magnificent sketches of the American landscape along the way. Manifesting the beauty and diversity of our Country.

Inspirational

The realms that were created through his work were of "tranquility, joy and beauty." With is sense of light, warm palettes and soft edges his intricate technique was similar to the 'Luminists' of the nineteenth century. The light-infused in his work gained him high recognition and population among millions. He had and will always continue to inspire many for years to come.

Generosity

Thomas Kinkade had donated thousands of dollars toward charitable causes. He also spoke often to schools, civic groups and churches in California. His abundant community spirit and benevolence were honored in 1990 when we was presented with the 'Humanitarian of the year Award from his county Chamber of Commerce.

Thomas Kinkade's words will be forever etched in many memories and was quoted as saying, " I try to create paintings that are a window for the imagination. If people look at my work and are reminded of the way things once were or perhaps the way they could be, then I've done my job."

For millions of homes he has given us beauty, joy and tranquility. He has defined what a real artist truly can be. An artist is one who shares with everyone their talent and makes it affordable for any individual who purchases their work.

The critics who say Thomas Kinkade was not an Artist should reconsider their words. He was a man who would not allow galleries or individuals to reap millions from his work once he was gone. When a person is a true collector of Art, they will not part with the precious pieces that adorn there home. They will not try to profit from someone who poured their heart and soul into their artwork.

When I look at my handful of pieces that I could afford or the coaster or mouse pad that are authenticated by Thomas Kinkade. His work to me is priceless. He may no longer be here on Earth but his God given gift will be enjoyed for years being passed from generation to generation. What a blessing he was to all of us and I am share God has welcome him with open arms.

These are my 10 reasons why Thomas Kinkade was a magnificent artist. Wouldn't it be nice to see him recognized for his artistic ability? With millions of households enjoying his art, one would think the Art critics would realize what defines a true Artist. Maybe one day I will own a Gazebo oil painting of his, that would be the greatest gift of all.

There is a joyful noise in heaven, either we believe there is another place or there is not. He painted the pathway to eternity for the entire world to see.
