On average it is estimated that 2 to 3 million people fly the friendly skies per day. These numbers are higher then people taking a cruise yearly. With that many lives on board an airline, safety is plays a key role at getting others to their final destination. If you are looking for product and service quality, staff service, regional or low cost air-fare the Airlines that took home the awards for 2011 may be quite surprising to you.
Over 18 million airline passengers voted from over 100 Countries, including the United States of America and the United Kingdom. There were a couple of runner-ups that took home the prestigious 'World Airline Awards' for North America.
Coming in 3rd was Frontier Airlines, based out of Indianapolis, Indiana. Flying throughout the United States, Costa Rica and Mexico they fly to 83 destinations daily. Not as large as many of our Airlines they made the 'A' list for low cost airfare and quality service.
2nd place was WestJet a Canadian based airline that flies to over 71 destinations in Canada, the United States, the Caribbean and Mexico. It is the second largest passenger carrier in Canada.

World's Best Airline 2011
With so many Airlines both Domestic and Internationally the Airline that took the coveted title as "The World's Best" Airline was none other then Qatar Airlines. Singapore Airlines along with Asiana Airlines to a nice second and third place. Cathay Pacific Airways retained their fourth place position once again in 2011. Following closely behind were Thai Airways International, Ethiad Airways, Air New Zealand, Quantas Airways, Turkish Airlines and Emirates Air.
Looking for Superb Staff Service in North America? Jet Blue Airways came in 3rd place, West Jet came in 2nd and none other then Virgin America took home another prestigious award! With domestic carriers that have been around for years, one would believe that they would take direction on how to treat there air passengers from these top three air carriers.
International passengers traveling from North America to other parts of the World that fly with Delta Airlines, Continental Airlines or Air Canada should be pleased that their Airline was named " Best International Airline in North America."
In 2008 Delta merged with Northwest Airlines to create the World's largest passenger service in the skies. lord de cross: Unfortunately American always lags and it doesn't make any sense. I used to enjoy flying AA but now, I could not imagine getting on the Airlines because of customer service. I hope they can learn something from the list and end up in the top 10 at least.

Wow, this intrigues me because I'm surprised Southwest Airlines isn't included. I love SWA primarily due to its customer service and for the fact they make flying fun, and their employees love them. I have to look up Qatar simply because I've not heard of that airline. Thanks very much for your hub.
ytsenoh: SW is my favorite Airline to and I believe the reason why they may not have made the list is because the do not fly International, but I could be wrong. I have several friends who work for SW and honestly they should be on there. :)
AEvans - Great information. With the actions of the TSA of late I don't think I'll be flying any time soon. The key to all of this is maintenance which helps ensure safety.
The Frog
Qatar airlines have a terrible track record in terms of how they treat their staff. Almost indentured servitude in many cases.

molometer: I have never flown with Qatar, but then again I didn't choose these. It was the World Airline Awards. I do wonder about SouthWst Airlines, it wasn't anywhere on the list.

I have done my fair bit of flying throughout my life and I can testify that the best carriers are those from SE Asia and some Middle Eastern carriers.
My favourite hands down has to be Singapore Airlines where customer care comes first, second and third. All aspects that make an enjoyable flying experience (apart from safety, of course) have made them my top fave; comfort, entertainment, catering and good service. And mind you, this is their economy (coach)cabin. Business and First are in a different league altogether.
I flew once on Qatar and was also pleasantly surprised. Other carriers to consider are Asiana (S Korea), Air New Zealand (best economy legroom I've experienced), Thai and Cathay Pacific.
In the low cost groups, Jetblue, SWA and Air Berlin tick all the right boxes.
It is a real shame that the US legacy carriers have neglected their service so much over the years. Gone were the days of Pan Am, TWA and Eastern - they definitely knew how to treat passengers.

I really like Frontier Airlines, AEvans, in terms of their flight service. I could do without their baggage fees and fee to change a flight.

Angela Blair: I overcame my fear of flying after 09/11. They say get in and fasten your seat belts. lolo! It was bad, in fact I overcame the stress and really enjoyed the trip.
tony.abacab: SWA is one of my all-time favorites. I remember a flight when a flight attendant actually sang ,"The Yellow Rose Of Texas". Made our flight a memorable one. Thank you for the additional names it is always great to get additional recommendations. :)
Dexter Yarbrough: Frontier is a popular one, but I agree the extra fee is a little ridiculous. Many of the Airlines in the U.S. should observe how SWA handles their service. They haven't gone bankrupt. Mmmmmm.... Maybe they should pay attention.
Shyron E Shenko: I would say when it comes to mechanical problems there are great mechanics who handle those massive air busses and they do not leave the ground until things are fixed. I know it is a concern, but they say we are honestly safer in the air, then on the ground. I hope one day you fly and share your experience with us. :)

Wait a minute, I'm the first to comment? This might a set up!! What can I say: This list is wonderfully done. Have traveled overseas and American has lagged behind Delta. Economy has taken its toll and they act accordingly in fear of losing their jobs...sort of the flying version of a postal Worker. We believe that this 2012, the Industry will recover what it lost in 2007-2010. On these Holidays, they have made up for the 3 quarters behind. Thanks for the info AEvans!
